We would like to share an update on the work underway to repair, restore and enhance Elizabeth Ziegler Public School.

Repairing, Restoring and Enhancing Elizabeth Ziegler Public School

As we lay the groundwork to allow construction to begin at the Elizabeth Ziegler Public School site, Facility Services staff are creating plans to enhance and improve the building in a range of ways. This includes:

  • Construction of a new interior steel frame to provide structural reinforcement for resistance to seismic activity and improved building safety
  • Accessibility features including parking and building access, and the installation of two elevators to make all floors fully accessible
  • Renovated and redesigned library space
  • Installation of energy efficient lighting and controls
  • Updates throughout the school will include:
    • Classroom sound field systems
    • Large screen television monitors
    • Networking and telephones
    • Public announcement (PA) system

With these elements in mind, Facility Services staff are busy preparing the required documents for the tender process. The pre-qualification package for interested general contractors is also being prepared. We anticipate that the tender documents will be released to prequalified general contractors in early 2026 for bidding. Once a contractor is selected, construction on the project can begin.

Next Steps

Once the competitive bidding process has been completed, WRDSB staff will work alongside the successful general contractor to begin work at the Elizabeth Ziegler Public School site as quickly as possible. We appreciate the school community’s patience and understanding as we move forward with this project.

Elizabeth Ziegler Public School remains closed as we work to repair and restore the building. The school is expected to open in September 2027.
